Anansi the Spider is a folktale from West Africa about a clever spider who outsmarts other animals.
Anansi was known for being good at tricking others, and he often used his smarts to get what he wanted. One day, Anansi decided he wanted all the wisdom in the world. So, he set out to trick the sky god, Nyame, into giving it to him. Anansi went to Nyame and said, "I want all the wisdom in the world. Will you give it to me?" Nyame, amused by Anansi's bravery, replied, "I will give you all the wisdom in the world, but first you must bring me the python, the leopard, and the hornet."
Anansi knew this would be a difficult task, but he was determined to have the wisdom. So, he set out to catch the python, leopard, and hornet. He tricked the python by promising him a big feast. He tricked the leopard by promising him a beautiful bride. And he tricked the hornet by promising him a new home.
With the python, leopard, and hornet, Anansi returned to Nyame and presented them as his gift. Nyame was impressed, and, true to his word, he gave Anansi all the wisdom in the world. Anansi was very pleased with himself, but he soon realized that wisdom is not always the best thing to have, as it made him a better trickster and sometimes he used his wisdom and trickery to do mean things to others.
